One of the emerging trends in search engine optimization (SEO) is the increase of Google’s rich answers. Most often, rich answers are based on public data (like “President of France”) or data licensed to Google (such as song lyrics). So if your SEO strategy has been built on public domain data, now would be a good time to begin shifting direction, because acquiring traffic from Google could become increasingly difficult.

If you can get your page featured in a rich answer, you can see a massive boost in your website traffic. The click through rate (CTR) for rich answers is twice as good as that for the top ranking page on an SERP without a rich answer. The great news is that getting featured in rich answers is possible even if your sit’s authority is still relatively low.

Here are a few steps you can follow to improve your likelihood of getting featured:

Eric Enge,

  • Begin with long tail keyword research — you need to identify the commonly searched questions in your specific niche.
  • Create content that directly answers these questions. Make sure to include the question itself, and a direct answer to it — remember that for rich answers, the structure of your answer is worth more than your site’s relevance and authority.
  • Make sure your article is actually helpful and provides additional information on the matter. This will multiply your chances of getting featured as a rich answer and will also help you entice more clicks.
  • Make the content easy to find for people and search engines (make sure it’s available to Google bots and easily accessible through your site’s navigation; share links to it on your social accounts; upload them via Google search console, etc.)
